HowinTM SMA-725
Product Description
HOWINTM SMA-725 is a random copolymer of styrene and maleic anhydride, produced by bulk polymerization process. Its appearance is yellowish transparent granule.
Application
HOWINTM SMA-725 includes a mass of maleic anhydride group, which can be applied to: Chain extender for PA, improving viscosity and mechanical strength of PA and PA+GF.
Characteristics
A. SMA-725 is used as chain extender of PA.
a) As chain extender, SMA-725 clearly improves mechanical property of PA6.

b) As chain extender, SMA-725 clearly improves viscosity of PA6.

Because the abundant maleic anhydride groups of SMA-725 can react with the end amido groups of PA6. SMA-725 can be used as chain extender of PA6. It can improve molecular weight and degree of branching of PA6. The result is to increase viscosity and mechanical property of PA6, as Figure1 shows.
c) As chain extender, SMA-725 has equal effect with import chain extender.

Compared with import low molecular weight chain extender, SMA-725 has equal effect on extending PA6 chain because of its abundant maleic anhydride. However, the appearance of import chain extender is powder and its softening temperature is lower, which cause that it cannot disperse evenly in PA6 and generates overreaction, gel and black plots in PA6. But the appearance of SMA-725 is granule and it will react stably with PA6, which can’t generate gel and black plots.
Usage
It's mainly used in modified styrene resin and alloy, such as glass fiber reinforced ABS, glass fiber reinforced AS, PC/ABS alloy, PA/ABS alloy, heat resistant ABS and so on, these materials are widely used in automobiles, household appliances and other fields, such as car rear view mirror housing, center stack, rice cooker shell, air conditioner housings etc.
